Cotto his power and strength will beat Mayweather

Current WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto is confident that his power and strength will be a major factor when he fights undefeated American star Floyd Mayweather. The Mayweather vs Cotto fight will be on May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Cotto will defend his World Boxing Association (WBA) junior middleweight title against Mayweather, who will be fighting at the 154-pound weight division for the first time since 2007.

“There’s no doubt I have the power to win this fight. If anything, my power has strengthened,” Cotto said in a RingTV interview. “That will make the difference.”

Cotto also believes the weight will be a major factor since Mayweather has not fought at the 154-pound division for a long time, whereas he has gotten used to that weight.

Mayweather vs Cotto bout won’t be one-sided

Many believes the May 5 junior middleweight contest between Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto will not be as one-sided as many boxing fans think. The undefeated Mayweather is the favorite going to the Mayweather vs Cotto fight, even though he is fighting at the 154-pound weight class for the first time since 2007 and is technically the challenger to Cotto’s junior middleweight title.

In an interview with On The Ropes Boxing Radion, Richardson explained that the weight class, along with Cotto’s fighting spirit, will play significant roles in the match.

“You can’t just lock in on one-sided,” said Richardson, who has trained former world champions “Sugar” Shane Mosley and Bernard Hopkins. “The last time Floyd has been at this weight was probably his toughest contest.”

Mayweather vs Cotto: Bayless leading candidate for referee

Referee Kenny Bayless was the leading candidate to officiate the May 5th super fight between undefeated Floyd Mayweather and WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto. Bayless, 62, was the referee in Cotto fights against Antonio Margarito in 2008 and Manny Pacquiao in 2009 and in Mayweather Jr. fights against Oscar de la Hoya in 2007 and Sugar Shane Mosley in 2010.

Bayless, known as one of the most impartial referees in Las Vegas, also officiated the Mosley versus Floyd Mayweather fight and the Mayweather versus Oscar de la Hoya superbout.

Although he refused to give his fight prediction in Mayweather vs Cotto, Bayless said he expects a clean bout between the two ring warriors.

Cotto ready for war vs Mayweather

WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto will be ready to go to war when he steps into the ring against undefeated American superstar Floyd Mayweather on May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

This, according to his Cuban trainer, Pedro Diaz.

“Miguel is ready for war. He is ready for victory, and that is our goal,” Diaz said during Cotto’s open workout, as quoted by Boxing Scene.

Puerto Rican boxing star Miguel Cotto is fine with random blood and urine testing for his junior middleweight bout against unbeaten American star Floyd Mayweather on May 5 in Las Vegas. Mayweather has demanded that all of his opponents undergo random blood and urine testing, with the United States Anti Doping Agency (USADA) administering the tests.

In an interview with Boxing Scene, Cotto said he has no problems with the drug testing and believes it will keep the sport of boxing "clean."

"In sports, if it's something about skills, conditioning or preparation, you have to be clean. In all sports, you have to be clean," Cotto said.
